We are a body of believers who worship according to the Reformed Tradition in concert with the Presbyterian Church USA which flows out of the Protestant Reformation. We began meeting as a body of worshipers at Bud Beasley Elementary School on Sunday, November 8, 1998. The first full and publicized service for the Lord’s Day was on Sunday November 29, 1998. We moved to our first rental space in the Aspen Glen Shopping Center at the corner of Las Altos and Vista Blvds. on Sunday, July 30, 2000. On April 1, 2001 we added an 8:00 a.m. service in order to provide two Sunday morning worship services for a growing congregation. We moved into our current larger location in the same shopping center on October 3, 2003 and held a service dedicating our new facility on Sunday, October 19, 2003.

A significant date in the life of Spanish Springs Presbyterian Church occurred on September 17, 2003 when we were recognized as an official Presbyterian Church having attained the goal of 100 or more members. Our dedication/charter service was held at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Sunday, October 24, 2004. The Reverend Dr. Bruce L. Taylor was installed as the pastor of SSPC and continues to lead the congregation as senior pastor. Soon after being chartered as an official Presbyterian Church, Elders were elected and the Session was established along with the election of a Board of Deacons. Committees were formed and continue to conduct the business of the church including the planning of the worship service, preparation of budget, administration of the physical plant and planning for mission and for the Christian Education needs of the church. SSPC as a corporation has officers elected to manage the affairs of the corporation according to State law.

We offer two Sunday worship services: 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Christian education classes are available for all ages at 9:00 a.m. each Sunday. Presbyterian Women meet on a monthly basis for study and fellowship. There are midweek adult Bible studies and periodic youth events.

We are a warm and welcoming congregation who worship together and also enjoy each other in monthly fellowship activities, many of which are held at locations away from the Church building. For example, fellowship events have been held as far away as attending a San Francisco Giants baseball game in San Francisco, Calif. Other events have included touring the local newspaper office, picnics in the beautiful Sierras, and attending the Sunday evening games of our Church softball team during the season of the Sparks Recreation Church Co-ed Slow-pitch Softball league. Vacation Bible School is held at the beginning of the summer each year for children in kindergarten through fifth grade and is open to all. Children are taught Bible stories and songs and enjoy games and crafts.

Jim Poulton, organist/pianist for the past few years, has resigned from SSPC to accept a postion at another church in the Reno area. Betty Christy has graciously agreed to perform the duties as organist/pianist for the worship services on a temporary basis while we search for a permanent organist/pianist. We are beginning a choir that meets for rehearsal at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings in the Music Room at the church. Singers of all ages are invited and welcome.
