A group called Gnostics claimed to have special knowledge necessary for salvation- a claim which also questioned the deity of Chirst. Paul wrote to warn about the subtle arguments and false teachings that threatened to undermine the Colossians' faith. We, too, are exposed to subtle arguments and false teachings on issues in our culture, and we will hope to learn of the Colossians' challenges and Paul's advice to them and consider how we can apply those lessons to our lives as Christians in our place and time.
